He returned to play T20I series for West Indies in 2016, but then was again, not included in West Indies' T20I series against India a year ago in October.

"Jason Holder was called by me yesterday morning and we spoke", Skerritt said at the press conference.

All-rounder Kieron Pollard has been named as the West Indies new one-day global and Twenty20 teams, the country's cricket board (CWI) said on Monday.

CWI said there would be a new selection structure and policy following a comprehensive review by CWI's Selection Task Force into the selection process and system for all West Indies cricket, with all the recommendations approved by the CWI Board of Directors at the quarterly meeting, held for the first time in Tobago on September 7 and 8.

Jason Holder relinquishes the ODI leadership role but will continue as Test skipper, while Pollard replaces Carlos Brathwaite as T20 captain.

Skerritt added that the selection task force, headed by Dr Shallow, recommended Pollard based on his experience as part of the CWI's restructured selection system.

Kieron Pollard was appointed as the West Indies' limited overs captain on Monday.

As part of the new CWI restructured selection system, the senior men's, senior women's and regional youth teams will have three selectors to be led by an executive selector. "What impressed me the most about Pollard was his keenness and commitment to give back to the game", CWI president said. He was kept in the reserves for the 2019 World Cup and then featured in the T20Is against India. Following their disastrous performance at the showpiece ODI event, West Indies also suffered defeats to India in a T20I series (0-3) and ODI series (0-2) which they hosted.

Holder, however, will remain in charge of the Test side.

Talking to the Telegraph (India) Richards said he supported the split captaincy for West Indies with Pollard being one of the leaders. "A lot of guys know that Pollard would have been a great choice".

Pollard, largely a T20 specialist, averages 25 from 101 One-Day Internationals with three centuries but has not represented West Indies in the format in almost three years. Pollard and a few other players had fallen out with the board earlier for various reasons, the primary one being the clash between playing domestic cricket and overseas T20 leagues.
