Facebook is jumping into the dating game with its new Facebook Dating service that will allow users to connect with people in and outside of their friend network.

When he announced the feature past year, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Facebook Dating would be "not just for hookups" but to build "meaningful, long-term relationships". User's Instagram handles will be hidden within the feature for increased privacy.

The dating service will be free to users, unlike some rivals which offer both free and paid plans.

There were initially rumblings that the dating feature might be open only to people who list themselves as "single" and not those who are "married" or "in a relationship". Unlike most apps, however, Facebook Dating is free and ad-free. According to Facebook, users will be able to add their Instagram Stories to their Facebook Dating profiles, as well, by the end of the year. You might notice there are no European countries - Facebook promises the service will arrive by “early 2020”. Individuals can also control if a dating profile is shown to friends, friends of friends and non-friends. This tool allows users to share the date, time and location of their upcoming date with friends they trust via Messenger. For dating, users can create a separate profile of theirs.
