The House Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Oversight committees sent Mulvaney a letter Tuesday requesting he appear for a closed-door deposition as part of the Democrats' impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump and Ukraine. Under the arrangement, Mr. Johnson said Mr. Sondland told him, Ukraine would appoint a strong prosecutor general and move to "get to the bottom of what happened in 2016-if President Trump has that confidence, then he'll release the military spending", recounted Mr. Johnson.

The committee also released a trove of text messages between Volker, other diplomats and Ukrainian officials.

Democrats say that's an improper quid pro quo.

A key witness in the Donald Trump impeachment inquiry has reversed his evidence, indicating he did believe there was a quid pro quo in which USA military aid would be denied to Ukraine unless it publicly launched a corruption investigation into Joe Biden.

"If you mean that those conditions would have to be complied with prior to getting a meeting, that was my understanding", Sondland said.

In an attached addendum to transcripts released Tuesday by House Democrats, Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland revised his earlier testimony that he was not aware of a quid pro quo with Ukraine.

Zelensky had also discussed the aid with Pence, Sondland said.

Sondland's new testimony, which was included in the public release of his closed-door deposition transcript on Tuesday, adds to Democrats' evidence that the President connected the freezing of $400 million in U.S. security aid to Ukraine to investigations into the 2016 election and former Vice President Joe Biden.

Vindman was the first official who heard Trump's July 25 call with Zelensky firsthand and refuted Trump's claim that the partial transcript released was a "word for word, comma for comma" transcript of his call.

Republicans have been clamoring for House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, to release the Volker transcript, arguing that it contains exculpatory information showing there was no "quid pro quo" between Trump and Ukraine.

House impeachment investigators have requested acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney testify on Capitol Hill on Friday, ratcheting up their investigation to target the President's top aide. "I don't want to spend any time with that". Diplomats have testified to the mounting concerns in the State Department over Trump's interest in having a foreign ally investigate Biden. "We now know that the call was just one piece of a larger operation to redirect our foreign policy to benefit Donald Trump's personal and political interests, not the national interest".

A spokesperson for the Energy Department told CNN that Energy Secretary Rick Perry will not appear at a scheduled closed-door deposition on Wednesday.

Sondland, a major Trump donor, testified on October 17.

Sondland had initially denied knowledge of any link between the aid and Trump's request that Ukraine investigate the Bidens, but in supplemental testimony, he said "in the absence of any credible explanation for the suspension of aid, I presumed that the aid suspension had become linked to the proposed anti-corruption statement".

Mark Zaid, a lawyer for the whistleblower whose complaint sparked the impeachment inquiry, suggested Tuesday that Republicans who have called for his client to testify publicly should follow the counsel of Sen.
