United Kingdom government attempt stalled by Northern Ireland

May is holding talks Thursday with other Northern Ireland political parties amid warnings the expected DUP deal will undermine the peace process.

"We spoke about the very important need for both governments to be impartial actors when it comes to Northern Ireland and that we are co-guarantors of the Good Friday Agreement and that any agreement that may exist between the Conservatives and the DUP should not in any way impact on the Good Friday Agreement", he said.

Northern Ireland has been without a power-sharing executive since March and without a first and deputy first minister since January.

Mr Adams said his party will not take its seats in Westminster or swear an oath to the Queen, joking: "No harm to her".

"I will be making it very clear that any deal between the Tories and the DUP can not be allowed to undermine the Good Friday and subsequent agreements", she said in a statement.

"The UK government is offering whatever support we can, working alongside the Irish government, as appropriate, honouring our respective commitments in the Belfast Agreement to serve the interests of the whole community in Northern Ireland".

"We are consistently making the case that our institutions are under resourced, have been undermined by austerity and need to be properly funded".

The Prime Minister met with representatives of all five main political parties from the province with a view to getting the Assembly back up and running again.

The two leaders are also due to discuss the ongoing talks to try and restore power sharing in the North.
