The Louisiana Republican was shot in the hip Wednesday morning in the baseball practice shooting by an IL man with grudges against President Donald Trump and the GOP.

Although Scalise was able to talk while lying injured on the ball field, he had gone into shock by the time he was transported by helicopter to the hospital and arrived "in critical condition with an imminent risk of death", Sava said.

The official tells The Associated Press that 66-year-old James T. Hodgkinson legally bought the assault-style rifle and 9 mm Smith and Wesson handgun that authorities recovered after the attack.
On Friday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation identified the guns found at the scene of the shooting as a 9 mm handgun and a 7.62-caliber rifle.
"Both were purchased by the shooter from federal firearms licensees", the Capitol Police said in a statement.
"It's been much more hard than people even thought at the time", Trump told reporters at the White House on Thursday, adding he also visited the wounded Capitol Police officer at the hospital.
Scalise has undergone multiple surgeries and procedures since then, and his condition has been upgraded from critical to serious.
