The condition of Steve Scalise, the third-ranking U.S. House Republican who was shot during a lawmakers' baseball practice on June 14, was upgraded to serious by a Washington hospital after he underwent another surgery.
MedStar Washington Hospital Center says Scalise underwent surgery Thursday related to his internal injuries and a broken bone in his leg.
Rep. Steve Scalise remains in critical condition at a Washington, DC-area hospital following a shooting on Wednesday.
Sava said he told Scalise's family that "I am not declaring victory until he's playing ball in his back yard with his family".
Although Scalise was able to talk on the ballfield, by the time he was transported by helicopter to the hospital, he was in shock. Brooks said the list was short and the other names he was told of were also GOP congressmen. He has had surgery several times since the shooting. He was shot in the hip with a rifle round, and suffered internal bleeding and damage to internal organs.

He told the parliament: "Yesterday, Emmanuel Macron, the new French president, spoke about an open door". That's why we're ready to start very quickly. "Frankly, we have seen enough of it".
Investigators are trying to determine what his intent may have been - whether it was a list of potential targets for violence or whether he wrote them down for some other reason, one official said.
The gunman, identified by law enforcement officials as 66-year-old James Hodgkinson of Belleville, Illinois, later died from injuries sustained during a shootout with police on the scene. He added that Scalise "will be able to walk and, hopefully, run".
The surgeon said there were hundreds of bullet fragments in Mr Scalise's body, but "we have no intention to try and remove all the bullet fragments at this point".
Hospital officials said it is hard to predict how long the congressman will be in the hospital, but that he is expected to be able to walk and hopefully run after a period of rehabilitation.
Griner remained in the hospital in good condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to the ankle, according to a Friday update.
