AAA: Summer gas prices at lowest levels in 12 years

Gas prices are up about four cents per gallon on average in MI this week, according to AAA.

Motorists are beginning to find prices under $2 per gallon at some stations around the Sunshine State.

AAA says the lowest average price was about $2.33 per gallon in the Marquette area.

Gas prices around OH have risen a bit but remain lower than the national average.

"Lower gas prices will make it more enticing for Americans to take extended, or more frequent road trips this summer", Mark Jenkins, a spokesman for AAA, said in a press release.

Gas prices in Tennessee averaged $2.02 on Sunday, yet motorists are finding gas prices well below $2 a gallon at many service stations throughout the state.

Gas prices have fallen for 23 consecutive days this month for a total decline of 28 cents. The region's average is down 11.6 cents from a month ago, the AAA data shows.

Drivers continue to reap the benefits of low oil prices and low demand for fuel, just in time for Fourth of July travel.

The national average for gas is now $2.33. The slump at the pump is not over yet. The stocks jump resulted in the region's low gasoline prices. However, historically, the prices can rise or fall as the holiday approach. Daily WTI settlements dropped from $51.23 in June, to as low as $39.51 in early August.
