Cundy also said that the number of dead or missing in the fire has now risen to 79, but that number may change as the investigation continues, he said. Attention has focused on materials used during the renovation process completed a year ago.

The cause of Wednesday's blaze is still under investigation, but anger has mounted in the community amid reports that exterior paneling used in an extensive renovation completed past year may have been banned by United Kingdom rules.

The confirmed death toll in the fire has risen to 30.

The recovery operation in the 24-storey tower has resumed but could take weeks, the BBC said.

"I believe there are 79 people that are either dead or missing and sadly I have to presume are dead", Metropolitan Police Commander Stuart Cundy told reporters.

"All I can say is to my certain knowledge the council, councillors, volunteers, community groups, officers of the council, have been present in North Kensington since very soon after they were notified that the fire had started".

Trade Minister Greg Hands said Sunday the government is carrying out an "urgent inspection" of the roughly 2,500 similar tower blocks across Britain to assess their safety, while an opposition lawmaker urged the government to quickly secure documents in the Grenfell renovation for the criminal investigation. He asked anyone who was in the tower and survived to contact police immediately. For police, fire and emergency crews inside the tower, "it is incredibly emotional working in there", Cundy said.

"We have colleagues in there as we speak, searching for and recovering those that have died".

The SMMT announced a record turnover of £77.5bn for 2016, its seventh consecutive year of growth, underlining the importance of the sector.

On Saturday, May conducted a two-and-a-half-hour meeting at Downing Street with people affected by the fire, the Press Association reported.

So, the residents are saying that the final death toll could be much higher than the figure what British authorities are giving.

Officials are using dental records, fingerprints, DNA samples, tattoos and scars to try and positively identify victims.

Britain's trade minister says the exterior paneling used on the exterior of the London high-rise, in which dozens were killed in a fire, appears to have violated building rules.

"It is hard to escape a very sombre national mood", the queen said in a statement to mark her official birthday - an occasion that typically does not result in any public comments from the monarch. Hundreds have been left homeless, putting more pressure on officials in a city plagued by a chronic housing shortage. On Friday, anger boiled over as people stormed Kensington & Chelsea Town Hall.

The government has promised a full public inquiry, but that has done little to a sense of frustration at the lack of information about how the fire moved so quickly to engulf the building.

"The response of the emergency services, NHS and the community has been heroic", she said in a statement. May has announced a fund of about $6.5 million for the victims.

Numerous displaced are living in churches and community centers.

A short walk away, however, are apartments and houses that cost millions of pounds and are home to a wealthy elite that residents of the Grenfell Tower had seen as a world apart.
