The other G7 members, Britain, France, Germany, Canada, Japan, and Italy agreed at last month's political summit to uphold the Paris Climate Agreement and make it work.

The U.S. abstained from sections of a Group of Seven (G7) communiqué related to climate change action, the Paris climate agreement and worldwide development funds focused on mitigating the impacts of climate change, according to a joint statement following a meeting of G7 environment ministers.

"I believe engaging in worldwide discussion is of the utmost importance to the United States when it comes to environmental issues", he said in the statement.
