Swede Stenson has his clothes for Open stolen

Henrik Stenson's 2016 British Open was much more pleasant than the one now underway.

The defending champion is renting a property in Formby for the duration of the tournament and it was broken into as he played his first round at nearby Royal Birkdale.

"But they were clearly targeting me because they were there when I was out playing and they figured out that the house was empty".

"Actually they missed my carry-on (case) so they didn't get the full jackpot but they got obviously a lot of valuables, watches and other things".

Stenson, 41, was forced to borrow a top off his caddie, Gareth Lord, and, with the help of his sponsors, managed to cobble together the rest of his costume, because his second-round outfit was among the many items taken. So I guess sooner or later, there's always a chance it might happen.

"When I finished my round (on Thursday), I was informed that the house where I am staying had been burgled".

After the court refused, Swamy said that he was not happy with it. The dispute has been pending in the Supreme Court since 2010.

Stenson is believed to have been shaken by the break-in, which is also an embarrassment for the tournament organisers.

However, he had been pretty open about where he was staying this week, accepting photo requests outside his private accommodation and getting picked up and dropped off in a vehicle with "The Open" logo on it.

The first rule of burglaries: show up when your target's not home.

"I'll be out there looking (for those responsible) tonight".

"Normally I don't think burglars would take clothes".

Merserseyside police has launched an investigation and pleaded for witnesses to come forth with CCTV, house-to-house and forensic enquiries being carried out.
