"We find his current performance, preparedness and proximity to the Major Leagues to be very appealing traits in a pitcher". In 11 starts at AAA Memphis this year, Gonzales is 6-4 with a 2.90 ERA. Since June 18, he is 5-1 with a 2.61 ERA. He made one start for the Cardinals this season, going just 3.1 innings and allowing five runs. Gonzales, 25, was the Cardinals first round draft pick (19th overall) out of Gonzaga University in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
