The Mets' 31-year-old outfielder praised Oakland manager Bob Melvin, telling Slusser, "I don't think there's a better manager than Melvin" and adding that while he didn't know if a return to Oakland would be possible, his love for the city had not faded.

After his first two years in Oakland, he was traded during the 2014 campaign to the Red Sox.

"I told (teammate Jerry) Blevins, 'I don't know how many years I'm going to play, but I'm going to play the last year of my career with Oakland, '" he said. The A's did give the Cuban slugger his chance at playing in the majors when he signed with them as an global free agent in 2012.

Mets slugger Yoenis Cespedes is playing his second full season in Queens and is in the first year of a four-year, $110 million contract.

Friday brought another quote that, while possibly well-meaning, might not go over so well in the Big Apple, or among fans everywhere of Mets Manager Terry Collins.

"I tell my guys here all the time that he's the best manager for me so far", Cespedes said.

Once at the police station, authorities say he took off his belt in a holding cell and started swinging it around. He allegedly warned them to watch their backs, because he knows where they live and he would slit their throats.

"I know he enjoyed his time with us", Melvin said.

Cespedes hit.262 with 66 home runs in his time with the A's. We had good teams and a great clubhouse - which he was the center of.

Cespedes found a home in NY and went on a home run hitting tear, eventually leading the Mets to the World Series where they were defeated by the 2015 World Champion Kansas City Royals.

The victory, the Mets' third in a row and their fifth in the first eight games of their current 10-game homestand, should have been cause for celebration, or at least hope that despite the daunting task ahead of them, their playoff hopes were not quite dead and the mass trading deadline sell-off that appears likely may not, in fact, be a done deal.

The A's originally signed Cespedes as an worldwide free agent out of Cuba prior to the 2012 season, and he spent more than 2 1/2 seasons in an Oakland uniform.
