Supreme Court agrees on early hearing of Ram temple case

Swamy said the main appeals against the Allahabad High Court order are pending for the past seven years in the apex court and they required an urgent hearing. However, the court has not given a date for the hearing.

The dispute issue has been pending since 2010 in the Supreme Court.

Following the direction to maintain a status quo in 2011, the Supreme Court further directed that the disputed land shall not observe any religious activities except "pujas" at the makeshift Ram Lala temple.

All the three parties refused to accept the Allahabad High Court verdict and filed an appeal in the SC to settle the case to the best of their interest.

November 2016: The Supreme Court agreed to have an urgent hearing of a plea made by Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy with regard to the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya.

The Supreme Court today said it will take a decision to list for early hearing a batch of petitions challenging the Allahabad High Court verdict in the Ram Temple-Babri Masjid land dispute case.

The apex court had on March 21, 2017 advised all the parties involved in the Ayodhya dispute to end the stalemate through negotiation. Chief Justice of India JS Khehar said that the issue is "a matter of sentiment and religion", and added that the apex court would intervene only if the parties to the case could not solve it.

Responding to his petition on the early hearing, a Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud said, "We will take a decision on it", as reported by the Indian Express.
