Surveillance cameras captured two white men and a black man chasing Ikonomidis with baseball bats as he tried to leave the building, sources said.

Bleeding heavily, he collapsed on the first floor of a building in Brooklyn, New York just after 4am on Monday and died soon after.

Before leaving, a neighbor says the woman called her boyfriend - who was not involved in the threesome - and alleged she'd been raped.

When the 21-year-old man returned to the apartment, Ikonomidis made a decision to leave.

"It's terrible. It's a nightmare", she said.

Meanwhile, the victim's girlfriend - who was not involved in the threesome - was photographed on scene by the Daily News grieving the loss.

As Doherty got back to the building in which the threesome took place, three other men also arrived, with Ikonomidis still alone in the room.

Police say there was found no evidence of rape.

Moments earlier, the mortally wounded man knocked on a neighbor's door begging for help, with blood gushing from his wounds.

"He fell into her house, she opened the door ... he was apologizing, 'I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry, '" said a woman in the building whose relative opened the door.

"He went to stand up, I don't know if he was gonna try and leave or what, (and) collapsed on the floor", the woman said.

"I saw the blood", said Liguori. He was mumbling, but you couldn't understand what he was saying. "He wasn't putting his words together", said first floor tenant Mike Rivera, 49. That's when I told him, 'God, honey, you're bleeding.' He goes, "They stabbed me!"

"I want justice for this thing", said Ikonomodis' mother Maro Mitilinou, 41, tears sliding down her face. "It's sad. He's a young kid who had his whole life in front of him".

Ikonomidis, of Gravesend, was rushed to New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn where he was pronounced dead at 4:33 a.m.

The woman arrived to the scene a few hours after the murder, and was extremely distraught.

"(Why) didn't you go home? (Will) you guys get him please?

The Brooklyn man was found unconscious and unresponsive with a stab wound to his chest and trauma to his body, police said.

The victim was found by police lying in the lobby of the building in Brooklyn, in the USA city of NY.
