Since Adam West died, it hasn't been quite the "same Bat-time" or the "same Bat-channel".

The Batman "Bat-signal" is projected onto Los Angeles City Hall in a tribute to the late actor Adam West, June 15, 2017, in Los Angeles, California.

He saw a resurgence in his career when he accepted a gig as the voice of the mayor of Quahog, who also had the name Adam West, in Seth MacFarlane's animated hit Family Guy.

West is survived by his wife, Marcelle, along with his six children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In Batman comics, movies and TV shows, the Bat-Signal is a spotlight with the shadow of Batman's winged emblem that is beamed onto the night sky to call for the Caped Crusader's help.

Mayor Eric Garcetti, addressing the "citizens of Gotham", said "legendary" West outshone other Batman actors such as George Clooney, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck.

West worked with Family Guy since 2000 until this year.

"Adam West taught us that each one of us had a heart of gold".

Hundreds of fans turned out - many in costume - and cheered as the yellow light with a bat silhouette appeared high up on the building.

Born in Walla Walla city, Washington, West began his career in the 1950's. "I can not say how exciting that is to me".

"This is a wonderful man who I've spent 75% of the time on this earth working with, who has been a pleasure, just unbelievable talent, a great father, a great family man, a wonderful human being, just a lot of fun and I'm going to miss him incredibly".

"I am beyond fortunate to have had the privilege of working with him, and he will be profoundly missed by all of us".

Attendees dressed in their best "bat-attire" to celebrate the life of the original "Bright Knight".

"I'm here to tell you that my friend Adam would want every single one of you to be incredibly happy and to be joyous", he said.
