Members of the U.S. Congress took the field for their traditional Republicans vs. Democrats baseball game on Thursday, with many wearing hats to honor Representative Steve Scalise, who was critically wounded by a gunman as his Republican team practiced a day before.

The man who shot senior Republican congressman Steve Scalise and others at a congressional baseball practice session this week had a list containing the names of three politicians, officials said.

Scalise underwent his third operation Thursday morning and remained in critical condition at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

A source said investigators are not sure of the significance of the names and it is not clear whether this was a list of people the attacker was targeting. Scalise, a veteran Louisiana politician, was reported by CNN to be clinging to life after surgery.

He had with him a piece of paper with doodles and the names of three politicians, according to a person familiar with the case.

Even with the progress over the last two days, though, Sava said Scalise will remain in the hospital for the near future.

Scalise remains in critical condition at a hospital near the Capitol and has undergone multiple surgeries.

Doctors "fully expect him to walk", Sava said, "and hopefully run". Doctors immediately performed surgery, but additional operations will be required, the hospital said in the late-night statement.

Batman Actor Adam West Has Died, Twitter Salutes The Legend #RIP
His family made a statement on Facebook that West always saw himself as "The Bright Knight" and he will always be their hero. Actor Val Kilmer, who played Batman in a later movie, tweeted: "Ah dear Adam West ".

The gunman, identified by law enforcement officials as 66-year-old James Hodgkinson of Belleville, Illinois, later died from injuries sustained during a shootout with police on the scene. On Thursday, Scalise, the House majority whip, had another operation to fix a bone in his leg.

House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise was the only congressman injured in the shooting.

Trump also adds, as he's said previously, that Scalise is "having a hard time, far worse than anybody thought" following the shooting Wednesday.

A rifle bullet hit his left hip, shattering bones, tearing organs, and leaving him in a critical condition.

Sava said doctors will not attempt to remove what are likely to be hundreds of bullet fragments from Scalise's body, saying the risk of such a procedure typically outweighs the potential benefits.

Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, who was at Wednesday's practice and gave medical help after the shooting, said it would have "been awful" if the game had been canceled, and said Scalise would want it to go on.

Scalise was among five people wounded when a shooter sprayed rifle fire at congressional Republicans practicing on a diamond in Alexandria.

Also suffering relatively minor injuries were two Capitol Police officers, David Bailey and Crystal Griner, and House GOP aide Zack Barth.
