Four US Republican senators say they cannot support healthcare bill

President Donald Trump asserted that the first draft of the Senate healthcare bill released on Thursday was work in progress.

"The current bill does not repeal Obamacare", Paul said in a statement.

But even with control of the White House and both chambers of Congress since January, the Republicans have struggled to make good on their bold campaign promises to repeal and replace Obamacare.

The bill would also slash Medicaid, which provides health insurance to one in five Americans. I said add some money to it. The stakes are incredibly high-this is about the health, well-being, and economic security of families, children and adults with disabilities, and older Hoosiers.

"We've had a thing called health care that is. percolating".

A draft of the Senate counterpart legislation to overhaul the USA health insurance system unveiled Thursday would make drastic changes to the Medicaid program, but largely retain the existing federal tax credit structure from the 2010 health care law that helps individuals afford insurance, among other provisions. Assuming no Democrat is going to vote yes, if two Republican senators vote no, the vote ends in a 50-50 tie. A vote would occur next week after budget analysts assess the package.

Those similarities could make it easier for Republicans in the Senate and House when they begin negotiations on one, unified bill that would head to the President's desk.

It would also largely retain the subsidies Obama provided to help millions buy insurance, which are pegged mostly to people's incomes and the premiums they pay. He said he needs more "information".

But I can honestly say my motivation was always what I believed to be in the best interest of the Irish people", he said. Mr Varadkar won the Fine Gael party leadership contest against Simon Coveney at the start of June.

"This is a tax bill disguised as a health bill", House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-California) told reporters on its release.

Facing unanimous Democratic opposition, Republicans can suffer defections by no more than two of their 52 senators and still push the measure through the Senate.

"We have a responsibility to move forward, and we are", said McConnell, R-Ky. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY and other Democratic leaders began a series of procedural requests to slow down consideration of the legislation, a discussion draft of which posted shortly before the Senate convened.

But Democrats slammed the secrecy and said the GOP did not allow enough time for proper debate. The budget office said the House bill would cause 23 million to lose coverage by 2026. That money now covers all eligible recipients and procedures.

The House-passed bill would halt the extra funds for new beneficiaries in three years, a suggestion McConnell has offered. Some from states that have expanded the program have battled to prolong the phase-out, while conservative Republicans have sought to halt the funds quickly.

The draft bill, however, cuts federal funding to Medicaid, which will force states to make deep cuts to their healthcare programs for the poor. The plan would limit Medicaid spending with per capita caps, or states can decide to adopt block grants for Medicaid spending.

"Obamacare isn't working - by any almost any measure it has failed", said Sen. Many Republicans have long fought that organization because it provides abortions. The bill would give states more flexibility to use a kind of waiver known as "1332". (Read the full bill here). The Senate draft comes over a month after the House of Representatives passed the American Health Care Act (AHCA) on May 4.
