He said police could not confirm whether the prisoners had left Bali and there was a suspicion they might be still stuck inside the tunnel.
Davidson fled the country, arriving at Bali's global airport from Perth.
Prison officers became aware of the escape while conducting a morning check of inmates at the Kerobokan penitentiary in Bali's capital, Denpasar, said Putu Ika Prabawa, an officer at Bali's Kuta Utara police station.
But Indonesian officials say they are investigating and don't seem ready to admit that Davidson was active on social media while imprisoned. "Where it goes, how deep it is and find out all things, to anticipate if they may still be trapped there", he told News Corp Australia from inside Kerobokan prison.
Cases of inmates escaping from overcrowded prisons have been the norm in Indonesia.
The whereabouts of Australian man Shaun Davidson, who was among the four escapees, remains unknown.
On Tuesday authorities revealed they had also found a shirt, a torch that was still on and matches about four metres inside the tunnel.
As there are no traces of the four escapees, Corrections chief of the Bali Law and Human Rights Ministry, Surung Pasaribu, said they are also checking if the men had fled through any jail gates or with a garbage truck that enters the compound at 4am, and will interrogate the driver.
Yudith said police had completed questioning the 10 guards who were on duty when the prisoners disappeared and other prisoners in the block.

Kerobokan jail in Bali, where the escape took place.
With an in-depth report from an Australian TV crew broadcasted last week, showing unprecedented access to the Bali jail and now a major investigation underway following the escape of the four prisoners, more and more information about the goings on of the prison are coming to light.
Despite reviewing CCTV footage, unfortunately, security cameras did not cover the area of the tunnel to give more leads to the jailbreak.
Davidson is serving a one-year sentence for an immigration offense, while Iliev is serving a seven-year sentence for money laundering and another offense.
But he also faces drug charges back in Australia. He was due for release in August after serving a year for using another man's passport.
"He actually likes prison".
Davidson said he lost his passport.
"They are still investigating whether they escaped through the waste ground tunnel behind the clinic".
