A shooting at a San Francisco UPS facility Wednesday morning left four people dead, including the gunman, who killed himself in front of responding officers.
Unconfirmed media reports based on a witness account said the gunman shot victims in an "execution-style", and at least one report alleged that Lam had "a history of mental illness". Five others suffered minor injuries trying to get out of the building during the panic.
On Thursday, replacement drivers had to tell customers in the city's Haight Ashbury neighborhood that 56-year-old Wayne Chan was one of the three drivers killed in the shooting at the distribution center. San Francisco police confirmed a shooting at the facility in the Potrero Hill. Because the session is only "four to five minutes", her first impression was that Lam meant to kill or injure many people. "Our thoughts and prayers are with all those touched by this incident". Two weapons were reportedly recovered at the scene.
Known for having some of the toughest gun laws in the country, including a high capacity magazine ban, San Francisco officials made no comment on how Lam came to possess what police characterize as an "assault pistol", and whether it was legally purchased.
The official was not authorized to discuss the case publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity.
After the shooting, UPS said the company wasn't immediately sure of the status of the survivors who were taken to the hospital. A union official said Wednesday that Lam had filed a grievance complaining that he was working excessive overtime.
"I'm a little creeped out", said Jennifer Plog, who lives next door to Lam's home and said he had appeared harmless. He ran to the roof of the building after he saw Lam running toward an exit. The shooter and all the victims were employees, UPS said in a statement. They walked away calmly with emergency vehicles nearby and gathered nearby outside a restaurant. A UPS spokesman said several people were inj. Authorities have not released identities of the slain.

"Mikey" was well-known around Diamond Heights because he'd had his delivery route for many years, Barry said.
One of the workers that Lam targeted was Benson Louie, 50, who was shot and killed after a morning meeting with staff. A UPS employee tells Noyes that Lam "had it out for a manager". "It was like tat, tat, tat, tat, tat, tat, tat". People said prayers and signed a poster honoring their three longtime colleagues.
UPS spokeswoman Susan Rosenberg said the company has marshaled additional drivers, loaders and management from other facilities to help with the backlog. "I want him back, I want him back", Toia said. "I feel so sad". Vu said he encouraged Lam to seek professional help and that Lam took off work for several months. "I can't believe he's gone". "We never expected that".
Cilia called the act of violence senseless. The UPS facility also had grief counselors present.
State Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, also shared his thoughts.
