South Korea confirms drone discovered in June was from North Korea

South Korea in recent years has repeatedly accused the North of flying suspected spy drones across the tense border bisecting the peninsula.

The South Korean and USA heads of state are scheduled to hold summit talks June 29-30.

Seoul's Defense Ministry said the bombers engaged in routine exercises with South Korean fighter jets aimed at showing deterrence against North Korea.

In a separate interview with USA broadcaster CBS aired Wednesday (Seoul time), the South Korean president insisted the former US administration's "strategic patience" has failed.

A Japanese diplomat said Warmbier's death showed that now was not the time to talk to North Korea and that allies must maintain unity in pressuring Pyongyang with sanctions.

I believe it is quite clear that they have a heavy responsibility in the process that led to Mr. Warmbier's death.

But South Koreans' enthusiasm for nuclear energy quickly waned following the 2011 Fukushima meltdowns in its neighbor Japan. Every time North Korea commits an additional provocation, the U.N. Security Council passes another resolution.

When asked to evaluate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the South Korean president said he is an "unreasonable leader and a very risky person" but the person who has "the authority to denuclearize North Korea. And regarding this, the new administration did not make any changes", he said.
