After a solid win for his centrist Republic On the Move party in a parliamentary election on Sunday, Macron is preparing a government reshuffle before embarking on far-reaching economic and social reforms, including overhauling labour rules.
Sylvie Goulard, the most prominent woman in Macron's Cabinet, issued a statement Tuesday suggesting she doesn't want the investigation to hurt Macron's efforts to clean up corruption in politics.
"This is why I asked the President, in agreement with the Prime Minister, not to be part of the government anymore". In a sign of how Macron's election victories have dynamited France's political landscape, Republicans lawmaker Laure de la Raudiere said she and a group of about 40 MPs would form their own grouping within the party that would support Macron on a case-by-case basis.
A French magistrate has launched a preliminary investigation to determine whether Goulard and other MEPs employed assistants at the European Parliament who were actually carrying out work for their parties in France.
Portugal, Mexico play to draw
Southampton full-back Cedric Soares has admitted that he is "very happy" to have scored his first Portugal goal against Mexico on Sunday.
Goulard, who was a member of the European Parliament from 2009 to May this year, said she could not remain in the government while facing a possible investigation of alleged misuse of expenses at that parliament.
The ministers' departure gives Macron a chance to reshape his government without including names who could prove awkward. French Defence Minister Sylvie Goulard announced her resignation on June 20, 2017 over a fake jobs scandal that has hit her small centrist MoDem party, allied with President Emmanuel Macron's party. "This reorganization must take precedence over any personal considerations", Goulard added.
In accusations also levelled by the Canard Enchaine, Ferrand is said to have favoured his wife in a lucrative property deal with a public health insurance fund when he headed the company.
Territorial Cohesion Minister Richard Ferrand said on RTL radio that the new position is a "strategic job" and a "sign of confidence" from Macron.
