Otto Warmbier was sentenced to hard labor back in March 2016 after he tearfully confessed that he tried to steal a propaganda banner while visiting the country.
"His spirit is with us and I can share his spirit with my spirit", said Warmbier, who was wearing the very same light-colored blazer his son wore during his trial in North Korea in March 2016.
During the press conference - which was held at Wyoming High School, Otto Warmbier's alma mater - Otto's father, Fred Warmbier, noted the family has doubts about North Korea's version of events. According to reports, his son is stable but has "suffered from severe neurological injury", Warmbier's father said.
US officials wouldn't say if Yun met with other North Korean diplomats while in the country or conducted more extensive diplomacy.
The damage to Warmbier is apparently limited to his nervous system, with no evidence of "acute or healing fracture", suggesting that Warmbier wasn't severely beaten, the doctors said. He says the administration is heartened Warmbier has been reunited with his family.
Warmbier is a University of Virginia student who arrived back home in OH on Tuesday in a coma. Otto's release was secured via the State Department and the efforts of the Trump administration, he said. The last such visit is believed to have been in November 2014, when former National Intelligence Director James Clapper brought home two other jailed Americans.
Doctors found no evidence of trauma after examining all of the bones in Warmbier's body.
"We are not burdened with whatever North Korea says or does any longer", he said.
Warmbier can open his eyes and blink but has no signs of understanding language or responding to commands, Kanter said.
Kanter said the youth suffered "extensive loss of brain tissue in all regions of the brain".
Harry Kane credits Royal Marines for late Hampden equaliser
Captain Harry Kane led the rescue act as England nicked a stoppage-time equaliser to deny Scotland a famous win on Saturday night. We had moments where we got into really good positions in the final third and you have got to take the finish.
At the family's wish, the physicians refrained from discussing what the future holds for Otto.
Though Warmbier supposedly had been in a coma for more than a year, the US didn't learn the full extent of his condition until Yun and the doctors saw him in a Pyongyang hospital. "Now we know why they wouldn't allow consular access", he said. "But I did take the call and it was gracious and it felt good, and I thank him for that".
There has been wide speculation that Warmbier was mistreated during his time in North Korea.
He arrived on a military airplane in his home town late on Tuesday. She says the parents plan a Thursday morning news conference.
Fred Warmbier said he was stunned when told of his son's condition one week ago.
Warmbier's father also accused North Korea of luring Americans to the country with a Chinese tour company making the false promise they will never be detained.
None of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center doctors have been in direct contact with medical officials in North Korea, Bonomo said.
A medical team from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center described Otto Warmbier's condition as a "state of unresponsive wakefulness".
"Dennis Rodman had nothing to do with Otto", said Warmbier, referencing the high-profile trip the former National Basketball Association superstar to North Korea took the same day Otto was released.
The doctors said he does not give consistent responses and has not engaged in any purposeful movements or behavior.
