Castile then tells the officer he isn't pulling it out.
"He already thought in his mind that this was a suspect in a robbery, and he just panicked and he messed up", said Lenoir, who is mixed race, African-American and white.
When Officer Yanez turns on his flashing lights, Mr. Castile, a longtime school cafeteria worker, quickly pulls to the side and stops his vehicle.

Yanez claimed he feared for his safety in front of jury as a reason why he had to shoot Castile. However, the dash cam video doesn't provide a clear view of what is happening inside the auto.
As Castile finished speaking, Yanez could then be seen with his hand on his own gun and shouting "Don't pull it out!" before firing seven shots into the auto.
During the trial, prosecutor Jeff Paulsen said that Yanez never saw Castile's gun, and asked the jury to think about what would have happened if the officer had stepped back to better assess the situation when Castile said he was carrying a gun.
After the first shot, Mr Castile's body is thrown to the right.
Yanez's defense attorney argued the officer "did what he had to do" when he shot Castile.

Yanez suddenly reaches into the vehicle with his firearm and discharges it multiple times. Reynolds' then-4-year-old daughter started to get out of the vehicle and was grabbed by an officer.
Officers direct Reynolds out of the vehicle. Soon, she was heard wailing. Reynolds maintains Castile was reaching for his identification. "I thought I was going to die".
