MI airport evacuated after police officer injured

A law enforcement officer at Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan was stabbed in the neck by an attacker earlier this morning.

Police confirmed to WOOD TV8's NBC affiliate WEYI that an airport police officer, identified as Lt. Jeff Neville, was stabbed at the airport Wednesday morning. It in not know what led to the stabbing.

Authorities say a person of interest in the stabbing is in custody.

The officer who was injured was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.

The Bishop International Airport officer is in critical condition.

A statement from the Flint airport said passengers scheduled to fly out of the MI city today should contact their airline to determine if their flights have been cancelled or delayed.

A witness tells The Flint Journal he saw the officer bleeding form his neck.

City spokesperson Kristin Moore said the response is "in an abundance of caution", and that Flint Police Chief Tim Johnson has stationed police officers around the city hall complex until further notice. It will be updated as soon as we have more information. "The situation is under control". All passengers are safe and are being evacuated at this time.

The airport has been closed while the incident is investigated.
