Some speculated Brand may have to step in after it was revealed that special counsel Robert Mueller is looking into the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

As special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials during the election intensifies, key players in the Trump administration are taking action.

Meanwhile, Vice President Mike Pence has now hired legal counsel to represent him in the Russian Federation probe and there are media reports that the investigation has expanded to include the business dealings of White House adviser and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner.

President Donald Trump confirmed Friday, June 16, 2017, he was under investigation and appeared to take aim at a senior Justice Department official, in a tweet that seemed to encapsulate his frustration with the ongoing focus on Russia's involvement in the 2016 election.

The White House confirmed Mr Mueller was among the candidates the president interviewed to replace Mr Comey.

The special counsel is following two major lines of investigation, said one USA official familiar with the rough outlines of Mr Mueller's probe who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Significantly, Preet Bharara, the India-born former top USA federal prosecutor, earlier this week had said that there was enough evidence to begin an obstruction of justice case against Trump over his alleged interference in the Russian Federation probe. During talks with "associates and allies", Trump has randomly said, without any one asking, "I'm not under investigation", Politico reported.

Although Scalise was able to talk on the ballfield, by the time he was transported by helicopter to the hospital, he was in shock. Scalise, 51, and four others were wounded when an IL man opened fire Wednesday morning on the team practice in Alexandria.

The White House has said the president "has never asked Mr Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn".

In this last tweet, Trump was referring to a memo written by Rosenstein that was intensely critical of Comey and implicitly recommended his removal.

Sessions on Tuesday told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence that Comey was wrong to have leaked the Flynn memorandum. "Witch Hunt", Trump tweeted on Friday morning.

Moreover, Trump sacked former FBI Director James Comey in May after Rosenstein issued a memo, urging Trump to sack the former FBI chief.

"You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!" he said in an early morning tweet.

Mr Trump later hailed his own social media following, saying he can deliver his message directly to voters instead of going through the "fake news media". Trump has also told friends and others that a "witch hunt" is being conducted against him. "I can go around them", he posted.
