Speaking earlier Friday in Miami, Trump said Scalise "took a bullet for all of us" when he was shot.
President Donald Trump called for unity in the aftermath of Wednesday's shooting at a GOP baseball practice in Alexandria that has left Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise in a critical condition.
During the assault, Scalise was shot by a 7.62 mm rifle bullet in his hip area and received serious injuries, including massive blood loss.
Scalise, 51, and four others were wounded when an IL man opened fire Wednesday morning on the team practice in Alexandria.
His risk of death is "substantially lower" than it was when he was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday, and "I think that an excellent recovery is a good possibility", Sava said.
Nonetheless, said Sava, "We fully expect him to be able to walk" and "hopefully run".

Hodgkinson, a Belleville, Illinois, home inspector who had been living out of his van near the park, had a social media page filled with criticism of Republicans and the Trump administration. They released photos of guns similar to the handgun and rifle that were used in the attack, which officials have said were purchased legally.
