Xander Schauffele, a rookie on the PGA Tour playing in his first U.S. Open, birdied his last hole for a 69 to tie for fifth at 10-under 268 along with Bill Haas (69) and Rickie Fowler (72), who was poised at yet another major to win only to fall back.

On Sunday, however, he was just the guy who won by four strokes and made it look easy, which left me and, I'm guessing, a lot of people hoping that when the U.S. Open comes to Shinnecock Hills in the Hamptons next year, it brings back the misery.

Thomas was already on course for a share of the lead as he stepped up to the 18th having carded nine birdies against two bogeys in a spectacular round. They each hit their first shot into the rough.
Spieth was well off the lead, but seemed to be feeling much better with his game after shooting 76 in the third round. Spieth has said that he feels that he is striking the ball well, but that he is trying to get more consistent on and around the greens.
Spieth opened with a birdie on No. 1 and said to his caddie, "Fifteen more".
Brian Harman is the leader at Erin Hills. It features a silhouette of Palmer in mid-stride, tossing his visor in the air. The final-round average was 77.2, and 20 players shot in the 80s. Palmer shot a 65 after going into the final round trailing by seven shots.
Fleetwood picked up a victory in Abu Dhabi on the European Tour while Fowler is widely regarded right now as the best golfer never to have won a major.
