Trump's digital volley appeared to be trained at Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who recommended the firing last month of James Comey-an nearly unprecedented move that could yet imperil Trump's presidency.
The Democratic National Committee, in a statement Friday, said that Rosenstein, who has authority over Mueller, needs to recuse himself from the Russian Federation investigation and that control of the investigation should not be given to another presidential appointee.
The former USA attorney for Maryland is understood to have played a key role in President Donald Trump's dismissal of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, with the White House citing a memo in which Rosenstein raised concerns over Comey's performance. Last month, Rosenstein sent a memo to Trump raising concerns over FBI Director James Comey - concerns the White House then cited as a central reason for Comey's firing.
A source close to Trump's legal team tells CGTN "no".
Mr Flynn was forced out in February after he misled the vice-president about his conversations with Russia's ambassador before Mr Trump took office. Comey testified that Trump directed him in February to drop an FBI investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn relating to the Russian Federation matter. "Witch Hunt", the president wrote in his tweet on Friday.
"Sad!" the president tweeted Friday. And Democrats and Republicans alike have criticized his use of Twitter, particularly amid the ongoing investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Mr Barnier, the EU's chief negotiator, said there was no desire to punish the United Kingdom but "its accounts must be settled". But May, weakened by her election flop, opted to keep Hammond in his job along with other key ministers.
First of all, this appears to be independent confirmation from the president that he is being investigated - presumably for obstruction of justice - as reported by the Washington Post this week.
Trump's Friday morning tweet capped off 24 hours of comments on Twitter about the investigation, including several remarks about his opponent in the 2016 election.
Separately, the apparent expansion of Mueller's investigation into whether Trump obstructed justice, including by firing Comey, has raised the question of whether Rosenstein, as a witness to and participant in the events in 2017 that culminated in that ouster, may have to also recuse himself.
A Trump confidant said this week the President had considered firing Mr Mueller. Trump previously said that he always knew he would fire Comey. If Trump is confirming the existence of an investigation targeting him, it would represent an extraordinary development less than five months into his presidency. And second, said Nichols, the tweet appears to be Trump "attacking the Justice Department".
Today, in another series of furious tweets, it seems Trump has inadvertently confirmed this news.
"Why is that Hillary Clintons family and Dems dealings with Russian Federation are not looked at, but my non-dealings are?" he asked. He also has millions of followers on his official Facebook pages. On Friday morning, in yet another baffling move, he went after the most powerful USA government official in charge of the ongoing investigation into Russia's meddling in the last United States election.
