Kamala Harris was "hysterical" during the Jeff Sessions hearings.
And yet the Democratic lawmaker was admonished-once again-when given her chance to ask Attorney General Jeff Sessions about his interactions with President Donald Trump during the Senate Intelligence Committee's Tuesday meeting. Jon McCain came to his colleague's rescue and interrupted Harris - reminding numerous James Comey hearing where her male colleagues constantly interrupted her - before the committee chair Richard Burr threw in the towel. And again, the same two white male Senators essentially shushed her.
Sessions replied: "I don't believe I had any conversation with Russian businessmen or Russian nationals", just before Harris cut him off with another question. Angus King, an independent from Maine, Sessions declined to specify what those precise policies are, but said the "principle" is to protect presidential confidentiality. I think it's like they're uncomfortable with women asking hard questions.
At one point, Sessions said he "wasn't able to be rushed this fast".
So the next time that a male senator is allowed to "pressure" a witness, or joke and create moments of candor, - the same courtesy should be extended to Senator Harris.
Looks like John McCain got a good night's sleep for a change.
Harris: "Senators will allow the Chair to control the hearing".
Grief turns to anger in neighborhood near London tower fire
Emergency services are set to spend a third day looking for bodies in the burnt-out Grenfell Tower block in central London . Asked if the death toll could exceed 100, Cundy said: "I'd like to hope that it isn't going to be triple figures".
Here's the entire awkward exchange.
Burr cut off Harris' questions last week as she tried to question Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
"(Women of color) understand what Kamala D. Harris is dealing with", Tanzina Vega, a CNN reporter who covers race and inequality, wrote on Twitter.
Why do Republican senators only interrupt when Kamala Harris is asking questions? As a member of the senate intelligence committee responsible for investigating Russian interference with the 2016 election and connections between the country and Trump campaign officials, Harris has landed a star role in the country's political drama. Included in this group is Trump's former spokesman, Jason Miller, who during an appearance on CNN Wednesday said Harris must have been suffering from "hysteria". It shows that they've been too ensconced in the Northeast Corridor-Washington, D.C., national political scene over the past few years to have really noticed and seen Harris over her 20-plus years in the public eye.
POWERS: But, how is that hysterical?
Not a peep of reproach was heard from men on the committee as her colleague and fellow Democrat, Sen. As Harris pressed, Republican Sen.
"I grew up with a stroller's-eye view of the civil rights movement, and often I joke that as a child, I was surrounded by adults marching and shouting for this thing called justice", she says on her website. She's quickly becoming a breakout star of all these hearings, and attempts to quiet her only seem to keep her star on the rise.
