"This is a major fire that's affected all floors of the 24-story structure from the second floor upwards".

"We need to know what happened, we need to have an explanation of this, we owe that to the families, to the people who have lost loved ones, friends and the homes in which they lived".

"We need to do whatever it takes to make people that live in those properties safe: that's either make the properties safe or find some other accommodation, it has to be done", Mr Javid told BBC Radio 4's Today programme. An emergency number has also been established for friends and family who are anxious for loved ones, known to be residents in the building.

As firefighters continued to search the burned-out hull of the 24-story Grenfell Tower - where flames were still visible Thursday afternoon, almost two days after the first panicked emergency calls - displaced residents on the streets below demanded that public officials provide answers about a disaster they say was preventable.

Authorities have confirmed 12 deaths, but have said that figure would rise.

So far, 17 people have been reported dead in the fire and some 70 people have been hospitalized for injuries sustained in the incident, including 20 people whose condition is critical.

"Furthermore it will probably be some time before all victims are located due to the sheer difficulty of fire fighters working in a building which is unsafe and will require a meticulous search of the debris".

Firefighters work at the scene after a deadly blaze at a high rise apartment block in London, Wednesday, June 14, 2017. One woman threw a baby out the window to escape the flames.

Many other London councils have released statements providing reassurance to residents living in tall blocks of flats.

Amazon Buying Whole Foods, Making Strong Move into Groceries
Whole Foods will keep its brand and John Mackey, its current CEO, will remain in place at the company's Austin headquarters. Online retail giant Amazon is acquiring Whole Foods in a deal valued at about $14 billion, the company announced Friday.

"They are simply not recognisable because of the fire", Fiona McCormack, from the Metropolitan Police's identification team, said of the victims found inside Grenfell Tower.

The charred remains of the burned out building stand blackened alongside near identical neighboring tower blocks. The footage ends with Ibrham and her two children still missing. Rkia Hamdan said his daughter Farah Hamdan, her husband Omar Belkadi and their six-month-old daughter were still unaccounted for.

"But it isn't only just the materials that matter - it's the way they are put together", he said.

"And it became clear to me this morning that that was necessary because when I visited the scene and I spoke to the emergency services they told me that this fire, the way this fire progressed how it took hold of this building was rapid, it was ferocious and it was unexpected". "She would have been in her bed clothes and she will be very, very, very scared".

"Theresa May should have met [the] Grenfell fire residents", she wrote.

Sky News showed one young boy shout at the mayor: "How many children died?"

Outside the police cordons, impromptu tributes appeared with photos of missing people, messages of condolences, flowers and candles.

Community centres in London have been overwhelmed by the number of donations flooding in for those left homeless.
