Sessions to testify before Senate intelligence panel

In a letter Saturday to the Senate Appropriations subcommittee chairman, Richard Shelby of Alabama, Sessions said the change in venue would be more appropriate for expected questions on the issues raised by former FBI Director James Comey's testimony to the intelligence committee Thursday.

Mr Comey told the Senate there were a "variety of reasons" why Mr Sessions's involvement in the investigation of Russia's alleged interference would be problematic.

Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Jack Reed on Sunday questioned why Sessions was involved in Trump's May 9 dismissal of Comey after he had recused himself from investigations of whether Russian Federation tried to meddle in the 2016 presidential election with possible help from Trump associates.

In a letter Saturday, Sessions writes that his decision comes in light of last week's testimony by fired FBI Director James Comey.

"The Senate intelligence committee is the most appropriate forum for such matters, as it has been conducting an investigation and has access to relevant, classified information", he added.

Sessions didn't mention any meeting with Kislyak as a senator during his confirmation process but later as attorney general he recused himself from the investigation into Russian meddling in the election.

Comey has testified that he thought it was improper for his then-boss Sessions to have been excluded from that meeting, and he has said that he did not want to be alone with the president again to avoid the appearance of undue influence.

It is not clear whether Sessions will talk to the intelligence committee in an open or closed setting.

DUP backs deal to support Tory government
The two parties are broadly politically aligned, but it remains to be seen what price the DUP will demand for its support. We need her to stay and form a Government that will reach a consensus on Brexit and begin the negotiations.

On Comey's accusations that Trump pressed him to drop the FBI investigation of his former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, Bharara said "no one knows right now whether there is a provable case of obstruction" of justice.

The attorney general cited his involvement in Trump's campaign for stepping away from the Russian Federation investigation in March.

Comey accused the Republican president of trying to get him to drop the investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn and fired him to undermine the Russian Federation probe.

Trump on Sunday accused Comey of "cowardly" leaks and predicted many more from him.

Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, a member of the Intelligence committee, sent a letter to Sen. "Totally illegal?" he asked in a tweet. He discussed the meeting with Sessions shortly afterward, he testified.

But his letter suggests that he expects to face questions about Comey's statements on Thursday about the reasons for Sessions' recusal from the Russian Federation probe.

-Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer of NY said he would take Trump up on his offer to testify under oath about his conversations with Comey, inviting the president to testify before the Senate.
