Defending champion Garbine Muguruza departed Roland Garros in tears after losing to home favourite Kristina Mladenovic in the fourth round, but men's champion Novak Djokovic eased into the French Open quarter-finals yesterday.

Paris: An emotional Garbine Muguruza blasted the French Open crowd for being disrespectful after the defending champion lost to home hope Kristina Mladenovic in the last 16 on Sunday.

"The crowd was really tough today".

She continues to be driven by a quest for titles, and she will go to Wimbledon, where she has won five times, believing No. 6 is a reality.

Venus Williams of the USA plays a shot against Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland during their fourth round match of the French Open tennis tournament at the Roland Garros stadium, in Paris, France. Sunday, June 4, 2017.

The Dane, previously engaged to Rory McIlroy, said: "I think if everything is calm and good in life, it makes it much easier to focus on the court".

The Spaniard stormed off court wagging her finger at the vocal crowd, while Mladenovic celebrated nearly as if she had won the tournament, running to shake hands with French federation president Bernard Giudicelli.

"I am in the quarterfinals, and I am healthy and I am playing well".

That put Nadal in the quarterfinals in Paris for the record-tying 11th time, equaling Roger Federer for the most appearances in that round in the professional era, which dates to 1968. Next up: Nadal vs. The fourth-seeded Spaniard next meets either No. 5 Milos Raonic of Canada or Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta. No. 6 Dominic Thiem, with the winners facing off in the semifinals. The Spaniard, who defeated Serena Williams in the final 12 months ago, walked off wagging her finger at the fans on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

I'm willing to testify under oath about Comey claims
Trump and his personal attorney have corroborated some of Comey recollections, but disputed that account. During his Thursday testimony, Comey said he hoped Trump would produce the tapes if he had them.

How right those folks were.

Mladenovic defended her support, saying: "I lost a final in Stuttgart against Laura Siegemund, a German player, and I thought the crowd was extremely tough there". "Probably I didn't play as well as I did the other day, but I still played well". Obviously they are excited.

"Emotionally I'm quite high at the moment, but it's something I like".

Muguruza was blown away in the opening set, winning just 15 points in total, before rallying to win the second.

"I don't think that they [crowd] crossed the line", Mladenovic said afterwards.

"I think it's such a nice head-to-head coming up for everybody".

The partisan crowd roared Mladenovic on to an upset victory, desperate to see a local win the women's singles for the first time since Mary Pierce achieved the feat in 2010.

She recovered to take the second 3-6 but Mladenovic, the tournament's 13th seed, secured her place in the quarter-finals by taking the third set 6-3.
