Iran sends food to Qatar amid Gulf dispute

Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said his country would not abandon mediation efforts until the impasse was resolved, the state-run KUNA news agency reported.

In a joint press conference with Bahrain's foreign minister, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Turkey would continue efforts to end a regional dispute that has sought to isolate Qatar.

On Monday, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain led a string of countries that cut ties with Qatar over what they say is the country's financing of extremist groups and its ties to Iran.

He said he had been consulted in advance by nations that "spoke to me about confronting Qatar", a country he said historically has been a "funder of terrorism at a very high level".

"We have to stop the funding of terrorism".

Al-Khalifa said Erdogan explained to him that the Turkish military base in Qatar is not there to target any country, but to ensure the security of the region.

Niger's foreign ministry expressed its solidarity with Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain, and it announced it had recalled its ambassador to Qatar following the latest developments in the Gulf.
