After campaigning on repealing the health care law and voting to gut it, an Iowa Republican is cautioning constituents fearful of losing coverage that the House GOP replacement is just "a tweak of Obamacare" that would have gone further had he had his way.
The Quinnipiac University poll of 1,078 voters was taken from May 4-9 and showed disapproval at 56 percent. According to the Center for Progress, in the time before the ACA, almost 50 million Americans lacked health insurance; more than 16 percent of these individuals were African Americans. The same report that said the AHCA will cause 24 million people to loose health insurance. "To ensure that insurance remains affordable for patients with pre-existing conditions, we've included an $8 billion fund to help offset premiums costs for those patients". But these estimates are just addressing relatively healthy, uncomplicated pregnancies. "It is a disaster for women, especially those who have been pregnant or want to be pregnant".
It notes that there are some elements in the ACA supported by the NRF, but it "opposed passage because of the law's failure to adequately address health care costs and its job-killing employer mandate". There's growing support for the idea of pegging the tax credits in the House repeal bill to income and making aid more generous for poorer people. "Approximately 13 million women stand to lose maternity coverage under this bill". The bill would allow insurers to charge higher premiums if there is a gap in coverage, and it opens the door to yearly and lifetime caps on coverage.
This was a dark day in the history of the United States Congress.
Back home, Predators eager to match Ducks' physical play
For the first time since the start of the postseason the Predators had shifts during which they where disorganized on defense. Neal scored from point-blank range on an assist from Johansen for his fifth goal of the postseason.
It's already been almost a week since the House of Representatives narrowly approved a controversial budget resolution that guts much of the 2010 Affordable Care Act, and we still don't have any estimate from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office of what this massive change to the insurance system might cost. "The bill passed in the U.S. House by a margin of 217 to 213".
Representatives who voted in favor of the bill Thursday understand something drastic has to be done about Obamacare.
Leaving a meeting of the Senate's healthcare working group, Cornyn was asked if senators are looking at their ability to repeal ObamaCare's essential health benefits. Twenty-four percent of voters, including 44 percent of Republicans, said it would make them more likely to vote for the incumbent in 2018, while 19 percent said it would make no difference. On top of that, the early contours of Trump's tax plan are getting dismal reviews. "I think they are opening up those meetings, I don't even know if they had any closed meetings".
