The movie will be about the events surrounding the infamous 1973 tennis match between King and Riggs, which was dubbed the Battle of the Sexes after Riggs publicly taunted female tennis players incessantly until King finally accepted his challenge to a match.

The trailer, released by Fox Searchlight on Tuesday, highlights how Riggs played up his sexist persona in order to drum up interest, treating his matches against King and, before that, women's champ Margaret Court as business opportunities.

There are two striking things about this trailer.

Francisco and Jacinta Marto are the youngest-ever saints who didn't die as martyrs. The late Pope John Paul II was shot by a Turkish gunman on 13 May 1981.

In Battle of the Sexes, Emma Stone plays a young King at the prime of her career.

If you enjoyed the wigs of Anchorman but were hoping for a bit more tennis action, then we've got the film for you: The first trailer for Battle of the Sexes is here.

Battle of the Sexes' official synopsis continues, explaining that King was "trapped in the media glare", while noting the match's participants "were on opposite sides of a binary argument, but off-court each was fighting more personal and complex battles". The film opens September 22nd and also stars Sarah Silverman, Andrea Riseborough, Elisabeth Shue, Alan Cumming, and Eric Christian Olsen. It is working from a screenplay by Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) and is helmed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, who together directed Little Miss Sunshine. With her husband urging her to fight for equal pay, the private King was also struggling to come to terms with her own sexuality, while Riggs gambled his legacy and reputation in a bid to relive the glories of his past.
