McMaster said the exchange came as Trump and the Russian diplomats "reviewed a range of common threats to our two countries".
National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster said Monday that Trump didn't share from where the information came, who gathered it or who was the source. "It did not happen", McMaster said before leaving without answering shouted questions.
Once again, his relationship with Russia came under intense scrutiny, this time from the Washington Post, who revealed claims that the United States leader had disclosed highly classified information to Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov. On Friday, Trump will embark on his first foreign trip as president.
The Washington Post first reported the story, which was later verified by The New York Times and Reuters. "Obviously they're in a downward spiral right now, and they've got to figure out a way to come to grips with all that's happening".
A USA president has the authority to disclose even the most highly classified information at will, but multiple U.S. and allied officials told Reuters that Trump had endangered cooperation from an ally that has some intelligence on Islamic State. It just says the people in the meeting "did not discuss sources, methods or military operations". A third statement, issued by Tillerson, doesn't even say the Post story is false.
McMaster would not confirm if that information was classified.

Other lawmakers voiced concerns about Trump's revelations to the Russians.
"Two other senior officials who were present, including the secretary of state, remember the meeting the same way and have said so".
"It is absolutely terrifying", Blumenthal said.
"If the report is true, it is very disturbing".

The latest incident comes just a week after Trump fired Comey.
Top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer accused Trump of potentially putting American lives at risk. John Thune, R-S.D., the chairman of the Senate Republican Conference.
Sen. Lindsey Graham of SC echoed McCain, saying of the report, "If it's true, it'd be troubling".
In both cases, the White House sought to distance itself from potentially problematic dealings having to do with Russian Federation; and in both cases, Trump totally undercut the messages of multiple top aides and basically confirmed the damaging storyline they were trying to beat back.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California called for a full briefing for Congress on the extent of the potential damage done.
The Senate intelligence committee is seeking information from the White House on Tuesday about claims that President Donald Trump apparently disclosed classified information to Russian officials.
He pointed to Democrats' selective memory which ignores that Hillary Clinton mishandled classified information on a level that far outweighed what Trump may or may not have revealed. His attacks prompted supporters' chants of "Lock her up!" at every rally, which he encouraged.
In a normal political world this would be the moment that congressional Republicans said "enough is enough" and finally held Trump accountable for his actions.
Muffled yelling was heard coming from the area near the room, but after a reporter tweeted about the noise, press staffers quickly turned up their television volume, blasting the sound to drown out everything else.
