A day after thousands marched in cities across the United States to demand the president release his tax returns, Donald Trump used Twitter to say "someone should look into who paid" for the rallies.
In Washington, several thousand protesters of all ages gathered in front of the Capitol building housing Congress, holding signs such as 'What is he hiding?' and 'Real men pay their taxes'.
The demonstrations were mostly peaceful, but in Berkeley, Calif., police arrested 13 people and confiscated knives and makeshift weapons after fistfights broke out between factions that support and oppose Trump. Civic Center Park when several people started pushing each other.

Many demonstrators said they hoped Saturday's marches would convince Trump to voluntarily release them.
Organisers of "Tax March" are planning events in more than 150 cities, including New York, Washington and Los Angeles, as well as cities in Europe, Japan and New Zealand. The Quinnipiac University national poll has consistently found support for Trump releasing his tax returns at about 67 percent since February.
In another, he suggested that someone "should look into who paid for the small organized rallies yesterday", adding: "The election is over!" Last month, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow released two pages of Trump's 2005 return that were obtained by investigative reporter David Cay Johnston. Trump's break with tradition has raised questions about possible conflicts of interest.
Protesters in Raleigh, North Carolina, said they suspect Trump's returns might show he has paid little or nothing to the government he now heads, or that he was indebted to Russian or other foreign interests.
"We do care. We want to see his taxes", said Ann Demerlis, who was among hundreds who marched in Philadelphia. Trump said in his second tweet on the issue. "Now Tax Returns are brought up again?" he said.
Republicans have also rebuffed Democrats' efforts to get the House Ways and Means Committee to act.
