The reigning European Formula 3 champion and son of seven-time F1 title victor Michael Schumacher made his F1 test debut in Bahrain on Tuesday, driving for Ferrari.
Because in F1 testing, we don't know how light each vehicle is on fuel, or what engine modes it's running, we can't directly compare Mick Schumacher to the rest of the F1 field, but there's no doubt that jumping into a unusual and advanced racing auto and pumping in a time only 2.11sec slower than Charles Leclerc's pole position effort is nothing short of impressive.
Schumacher's rival from last year's F3 championship, Dan Ticktum, made his F1 test debut in the Red Bull.
The 20-year-old German, whose father Michael won five of his seven world titles with the Italian team, completed a total of 56 laps, as unexpected heavy rain caused delays to the afternoon session.
Mick Schumacher will also test with the Alfa Romeo team today.
Taking over from Bahrain Grand Prix race-winner Lewis Hamilton for the second of two days of testing, Russell posted a 1m 29.029s to pip Sergio Perez in the final ten minutes of track running.
Schumacher will return to the track Wednesday to drive the Alfa Romeo C38, which has scored two points finishes in two races this season in the hands of Kimi Räikkönen.
George Russell topped the second day of this week's in-season test at the Bahrain International Circuit after switching from his regular team Williams to world champions Mercedes for the day.

Mick Schumacher joined Ferrari as part of its young driver academy over the winter, following the same route current Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc took into the sport in recent years.
