In an odd turn of events, Albert has told the Jaguars that he's planning to report to the team. Albert skipped all of the offseason work prior to announcing his retirement last month.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have to wonder exactly what they'll get out of Branden Albert this season.
It was never clear why Albert, who was battling second-round draft pick Cam Robinson for a starting job, chose to walk away after nine National Football League seasons. His contract will pay him more than $8 million this year, and it's fair for the team to be hesitant about taking back a player who can't make up his mind about whether he wants to play or not.
That was evident from the beginning Tuesday as the Jaguars and defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots practiced in gray, cool temperatures nothing like Northeast Florida.
Left tackle Branden Albert unceremoniously un-retired.
Cam Robinson, the Jaguars' second-round pick (34th overall) appeared to be the better player and nearly certainly would have won the starting job anyway.
Disney Pulling Movies from Netflix, Starting Own Streaming Service
Some Twitter users expressed frustration with losing access to their favorite Disney movies on Netflix . Iger sold 797,578 shares of Walt Disney Company (The ) stock in a transaction dated Friday, June 9th.
Second, Albert coming back forces the Jaguars' hand.
It's equally unclear why Albert wants to return. He would owe Jacksonville $3.4 million in signing-bonus money if he stayed retired.
"The team will provide no further comment on this situation". He also is subject to fines of up to $40,000 per day for the time he was not with the team, according to NFL.com.
Back in March 2014, he signed a five-year, $47 million deal with the Dolphins.
Albert is a two-time Pro Bowler (2013 and 2015) and has started 118 games in nine seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and Dolphins. He didn't move well, had trouble in one-on-one pass-rush drills and seemed to be really bothered by the heat and humidity despite spending the past three seasons in Miami.
