Instagram testing 'Favorites' list so you can control who sees your pics

Instagram has been developing a new way to share photos and videos on the social network with select friends, Instagram's product lead Robby Stein tells The Verge.

People aren't notified when they're added to or deleted from a user's favorites list.

Previously, Instagram users would get around separating fully public posts from friends-only posts by simply operating two separate accounts - one of which could be seen only to approved followers. However, a green favorites badge at the top of posts will let users know they're on their friend's favorites list.

The new feature is a strong departure for an app that encouraged public engagement and only let public accounts share with everybody, or private accounts share with only friends. If you share it with your Favorites group, only those people in that group can see your post, and they'll know that they're seeing a Favorites post because there'll be a green "Favorites" badge on the post. If someone isn't in your Favorites group, this tab will appear empty.

Senate Health Care Bill Hangs In The Balance As 4 Lawmakers Waver
They said the measure missed delivering a GOP promise to Americans "to repeal Obamacare and lower their health care costs". Difficult, because several hospital and medical associations and the AARP also oppose the bill.

Instagram is only testing it out with a small percentage of users for now, and it's not clear when the feature may become permanent, though an Instagram spokesperson says they will continue to test the feature and tweak as needed.

Instagram is now testing a feature called Favorites. A wider rollout for everyone is expected in the coming months.

We'll have to wait and see if Favorites actually rolls out to all Instagram users, but it certainly could happen.
