Kovind was accompanied by his wife during the meeting at Vajpayee's residence.
Yesterday, the AIADMK (Amma), led by Chief Minister K Palaniswami, had announced its support to Ram Nath Kovind's candidature.
When NDA Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind files his nomination papers, the Chief Ministers of three states, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana are expected to be present.
Voting for the next president is scheduled on July 17, while the counting will take place on July 20.
Possible names that may be suggested by the Opposition include former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar or former Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, both who belong to the Dalit community, the same as NDA's candidate Kovind.
JD (U) has been a part of the opposition's joint initiative on the presidential elections.

It remains to be seen if BSP, which has also said that it can not oppose a Dalit candidate unless the opposition has a more popular Dalit nominee, attends the opposition meeting.
"The question is of a political battle - whether the basics of our Constitution would be protected or RSS would convert the country into a Hindu Rashtra (nation)", Yechury said.
Earlier, NDA had announced Kovind as its candidate for the upcoming Presidential polls. He was the president of BJP Dalit Morcha between 1998 and 2002 and president of All-India Koli Samaj.
For the record, the Congress said the question whether they would be putting up a candidate against Kovind will be known only after Thursday's meeting.
Other names from the opposition camp that were trending since two days were Prakash Ambedkar and Sushil Kumar Shinde. "I think there shouldn't be politics in every subject and everyone should come forward to support Kovind as President".
