Tropical Storm Cindy: Houston memes note storm's limited impact

National Weather Service forecasters said the storm had dumped from 2 to 10 inches (50 to 250 millimeters) of rain on various spots along the Gulf Coast from southern Louisiana to the Florida panhandle as of Wednesday.

Fransico Sanchez, Harris County Emergency Operations Center spokesperson, stated "We certainly have been spared the worst part of tropical storm Cindy".

Scattered showers and storms are still possible in central and eastern North Carolina Saturday afternoon as a front moves into the state.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy are headed our way, but the storm system packing heavy rain is complicated by the influx of a cold front from the northwest.

Cindy made landfall between Cameron, LA and Port Arthur, TX, early Thursday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center.

By midday Thursday the storm had cut Gulf of Mexico oil production by 16 percent, representing around 288,000 barrels per day of output, the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement said.

Forecaster Drew Montreuil, of Finger Lakes Weather, said there will likely "be numerous storms with locally torrential downpours".

It could mean as much as 3 inches of rain for the area, upping the risk for flash floods and putting local emergency officials on high alert.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said no further advisories would be issued for the storm, which was no longer considered a tropical storm after its sustained winds dropped below 39 miles per hour (63 kmh). Some roads were covered with water in the seafood village of Bayou La Batre, but Becca Caldemeyer still managed to get to her bait shop at the city dock.

The flood was also reported on the island of Dauphin in Alabama.

"They're not saying we're going to get a lot of wind out of it", he said.

The Greene County Herald reports that rising waters could threaten homes and public buildings, including an elementary school.
