"Will it be more than 10 hours?" Many of those same Republicans will now vote on their Obamacare replacement plan with only a week of floor debates, and maybe no public hearings at all.
The Congressional Budget Office said the Republican bill, besides leaving millions more without coverage and raising rates for older, lower-income Americans not yet eligible for Medicare, would result in some with pre-existing conditions "unable to purchase comprehensive coverage with premiums close to those under current law and might not be able to purchase coverage at all".
President Trump has said he wants a health bill with "heart" and the Senate plan doesn't sound like it fits that bill.
"[It will] take a different approach based upon these endless discussions we've had with the only people interested in changing the law, which is Republican senators", McConnell said.
"If it's an effort to rush it from a small group of people straight to the floor on an up or down vote, it'll be a problem", Mr Rubio told CNN. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said GOP senators will be briefed on the emerging bill Wednesday and he expects to see the legislation the next day, about a week before a vote occurs. A draft of the measure is expected to be completed this week.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will have none of it. This may be hard in the upper chamber, where different members of the party are divided on whether Medicaid - a healthcare programme for the poor - should be protected or trimmed down.
Tensions soar over Warmbier's death, North Korea calls Trump a 'psychopath'
He added that the US and China "call for complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula". Why? To make a political point, to show the US that this is what you get if you mess with North Korea.
Conservative Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, who wants a full repeal of Obamacare, said he feared that with the legislation being developed, "we're actually going to be replacing Obamacare with Obamacare", referring to the continuing role of government.
"I think getting things done as quickly as we can is very important", he said.
Some of the Senate bill's provisions could be political land mines, with individual senators' reactions crucial to determining whether or not the Affordable Care Act, popularly known as Obamacare, survives a Republican attack that has been underway since its passage in 2010. He said senators should have seen the measure "weeks ago" if the chamber is voting next week, the goal of top Republicans. "My take is let us be involved so we can work together". Because of the Senate Republicans' opaque process, it is still unclear whether their bill will end up as cruel.
Barrasso's comments come as Senate Republican leaders are preparing to release a draft of their bill Thursday with the goal of a possible Senate vote before the July 4 recess.
"They were happy with Obamacare". "In a tweet on Wednesday, McConnell's team said the "@SenateGOP has been active & engaged on how to move beyond failures of #Obamacare & we're focused on following".
It would also largely retain the subsidies Obama provided to help millions buy insurance, which are pegged mostly to people's incomes and the premiums they pay. A senior Democratic aide said they will make the same argument to the parliamentarian should that language be included in the pending discussion draft.
