Scalise was close to death when he arrived at the hospital: doctor

The man who shot House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and others at a congressional baseball practice this week had with him a piece of paper with doodles and the names of three lawmakers.

While the congressman was still awake just after the shooting, he went into "shock" as he was transported via helicopter to the hospital, Sava said. The doctor described how a bullet from an assault rifle entered Scalise's hip and traversed his pelvis, shattering blood vessels, bones and internal organs along the way.

Scalise, Tyson Foods lobbyist Matt Mika, congressional aide Zach Barth and US Capitol Police officer Crystal Griner were shot during an attack on the Republican congressional baseball team as it practiced Wednesday morning.

Scalise's security detail and other police officers shot and killed the assailant, James Hodgkinson of IL, who had lashed out against President Donald Trump and other Republicans over social media.

"Once we get through a few more days, we might be able to prognosticate a little better", Sava said.

News that the gunman had a list of names on him at the time of the shooting suggests that it wasn't a random incident but instead was a premeditated attempt to kill the politicians.

The American Hospital Association defines "critical" condition as: "Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits".

Supreme Court to Hear Wisconsin Gerrymandering Case
When the efficiency gap is over 7 percent , it makes it extremely likely the majority party will maintain its electoral majority. The Supreme Court announced Monday morning it will take up the most important gerrymandering case in more than a decade.

The person did not disclose the names, but said those listed had been briefed.

Doctors at MedStar Washington Hospital, where Rep. Scalise is being treated, discussed his condition on Friday saying that they believed he would be in the hospital for a considerable amount of time, possibly weeks.

"Earlier today, Congressman Steve Scalise underwent a second surgery related to his internal injuries and a broken bone in his leg".

Scalise remains in critical condition at a hospital near the Capitol and has undergone multiple surgeries.

Griner remained in the hospital in good condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to the ankle, according to a Friday update.

I would also like to personally thank all of the first responders who bravely assisted at the scene, as well as the entire staff of MedStar Washington Hospital Center for their continued excellent care.
