Unseeded Latvian Jelena Ostapenko stunned former world no. 1 Caroline Wozniacki to reach the semi-final of the French Open.
"Lucky her, she's way younger than I am", said Bacsinszky, the No. 30 seed from Switzerland who defeated France's 13th-seeded Kristina Mladenovic 6-4, 6-4 on Tuesday in a quarterfinal match twice delayed by persistent rain and stormy weather for a total of nearly four hours.
"We are good friends, because we played the doubles in China past year, and that's how I got to know her", said Ostapenko.
The second semi-finalist Roland Garros-2017 was 27-year-old tennis player from Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky, which two years ago had already reached this stage of the tournament.
Both Ostapenko and Bacsinszky, the 30th seed, will celebrate their birthdays when they meet on Thursday (June 8).
The men's quarter-finals featuring nine-time champion Rafael Nadal and holder Novak Djokovic were postponed until Wednesday after two rain delays disrupted Tuesday's play.

Even nuttier... If Ostapenko wins the title, it would be her very first tour-level title triumph. "I think she managed to play way better than me". Then the Dane finished a crucial break in the 10th game to take away the first set 6-4.

The government also wanted to pass "a domestic agenda which aims to tackle the social injustices in our country", she added. Tories dig in for Brexit by doubling the length of the new Parliament .
"I remember that I had, like, three towels that I wanted to give to my siblings because I have three", she said. The players had been back on court for only about 20 minutes after a first rain interruption, which lasted more than three hours.
Wozniacki, who has never made the semi-finals of the French Open, led 2-1 again in the decider before another rain break. "I saw her in the gym just right after our matches today and so we both said to each other, 'Well done'".
Jelena Ostapenko pulls off an exceptional upset at Roland Garros.
The Latvian's inexperience showed when she served to stay in the set. She is coached by another player who prospered on the red clay here - Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues, who won two French Open doubles titles.
These two have played three times and Ostapenko has won every match.
The women's tournament will have a first time Grand Slam champion on Saturday.
If Ostapenko's aggressive style of play initially appeared ill-suited to the gusty conditions, it was not long before she found her feet, winning four games in succession. I'm really happy to be through to my second semi-final here. But I guess they have more faith in me now, so now they're like, "We should try these drop shots and see how they work.' They have been working so far".
- Spaniard Nadal was scheduled to face his compatriot Pablo Carreno Busta, while defending champion Djokovic was due to play Austrian Dominic Thiem.
