Hours later, a source close to Trump's outside legal team said Trump did not intend his tweet to be confirmation of the investigation but rather was reacting to a Washington Post story on Wednesday about the probe.
Considering that Trump strong-armed Rosenstein into writing a letter about Comey's performance in the first place - a letter that never actually recommended the ex-FBI director's firing - and that Rosenstein didn't know POTUS would use the letter as his justification for the decision, it's easy to see how dude would be annoyed.
President Trump confirmed Friday that he's being investigated for firing James Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director, and appeared to attack Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who advised the president that the the Federal Bureau of Investigation was unlikely to regain the trust of Americans and of Congress with Comey leading the agency.
The Post reported that the interviews represent a widening of the probe to include looking into whether the President obstructed justice in suggesting to his former FBI Director James Comey that Comey drop the investigation into Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser, as well as for his firing of Comey.
"He's not afraid of the investigation - there is no investigation", Sekulow said, adding, "there is not an investigation of the President of the United States, period".

US President Donald Trump listens during a cabinet meeting at the White House in Washington, DC, on June 12, 2017. "The president is not under investigation". When Comey was deputy attorney general in the Bush administration, he appointed a close friend and former colleague, Patrick Fitzgerald, as special counsel to investigate who leaked the identity of Valerie Plame, a covert Central Intelligence Agency officer. Mueller was appointed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and has expansive powers to probe any matters that develop from his initial investigation.

It hasn't wavered in its support for the president, and wouldn't do so in the event of a Mueller firing.
Robert Mueller's investigation enjoys some independence from the Justice Department bureaucracy. He's increasingly focused his anger at both Rosenstein and Mueller, according to advisers and confidants, viewing the two as part of a biased effort to undermine his presidency. Trump appeared to acknowledge that he was a target of the probe when he tweeted about it. But Trump later said in a television interview that he fired Comey at least in part because he was frustrated over the Russian Federation investigation Comey was leading.
