Steve Scalise's shooter had a list with names of other congress members

The man who opened fire at a baseball practice among Congress members had a list in his pocket that included Republican members of Congress.

The Congressional Baseball Game is a long-standing summer tradition in Washington, with teams of Republican and Democratic lawmakers competing on the ball field, even in recent years, when fractious political debates are the norm. MedStar Washington Hospital Center said in a statement updating his status that the other patient "is in good condition". He was squeezing off five or six rounds at a time and, according to the report, fired about 50 shots in all. This was just after a neighbor called the police about Hodgkinson firing shots from a rifle into the woods behind his home in March. Authorities were investigating Hodgkinson's social media posts, a cellphone, computer and camera.

Mrs. Hodgkinson says she was at work when she first heard the news. He was living in a van there.

"I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw this myself in the late 70s in San Francisco", said the then-speaker of the House, referencing the infamous assassination of a city councilman and mayor in the city. The YMCA said that Hodgkinson had canceled his membership on Tuesday, and said he was moving.

Hodgkinson grew up here in the very part of the country many say is left out of the political conversation.

At her weekly news conference, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said she was "personally heartbroken" over Scalise's injuries.

Hours before the shooting, he posted to the Facebook group page "Terminate the Republican Party", calling the Republicans "thieving" and "cheating".

On Wednesday, speaking on the Senate floor, Sanders condemned the "despicable act" and added, "Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society".

But his more immediate motive for the attack remained unclear.

The two weapons recovered by police after the shooting of the majority whip and four others in Alexandria, Virginia were a 9 mm handgun as well as a 7.62 caliber rifle, according to a release. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) determined both were purchased legally, the FBI said Thursday.

It would seem hard to argue that Trump's rhetoric - which has included calling women dogs, calling Mexicans rapists, calling Muslims terrorists, referring to his political opponents with condescending nicknames, and of course perhaps most infamously bragging about sexual assault - has not played a role in the current tone in our nation's discourse.
