Two girls, ages 7 and 13, were wounded on Friday afternoon in a shooting at an end-of-the-year school picnic outside an elementary school on the far South Side, according to police, fire officials and reports. Langford says he believes both girls are students and Chicago Public Schools are still in session.
Then around 1:40 p.m., someone in a black vehicle opened fire on the suspended students, and when they ran back to the picnic, they drew the fire towards the celebration. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Police News Affairs said officers responded to a call of shots fired and "discovered two juveniles shot" outside the school. The teens were not identified because they are minors.
The children, ages 7 and 13, ran into the school after shots rang out, according to community activist Andrew Holmes. Langford says the children were taken to Comer Children's Hospital.
