According to reports from ABC News, Hodgkinson campaigned for the Democratic party and openly expressed his distaste for Trump and the Republican party.
Hodgkinson's Facebook profile featured a cover photo of Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont who lost to Hillary Clinton in his bid to be the Democratic Party's presidential candidate in 2016.
The man's two now deactivated Facebook pages noted he was a home inspector by trade. He condemned the shooting, saying in a statement that he was "sickened by this despicable act". Let me be as clear as I can be.
"Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society, and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms", Sanders said.
According to Facebook, Hodgkinson went to Belleville Township High School West and studied flight training at Southwestern Illinois College. Laid back, rough around the edges.
