The two escaped inmates sought in the killings of two guards on a Georgia prison bus were captured Thursday in Tennessee after holding an elderly couple captive and leading police on a chase by vehicle and foot, authorities said.
Rowe and Dubose crashed the vehicle and bailed out, running into the woods, Miller said.
According to Bedford County Sheriff Austin Swing at a press conference, Dubose and Rowe ditched a vehicle at the base of a hill in Shelbyville, covering the auto with grass and branches. The suspects were held at gunpoint after a homeowner say them trying to steal his vehicle. Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director Mark Gwyn said he wasn't sure who would get the reward.
The reward for the two escaped convicts accused of killing two Georgia correctional officers Tuesday is now up to $130,000. Due to their tireless efforts, the public is safe.
Gov. Nathan Deal released a statement, "Rest assured, justice will be served".
A myriad of federal, state and local law enforcement agents are now scouring the state and the country for Rowe and Dubose, both serving sentences that do not allow for parole. Department of Corrections Commissioner Greg Dozier wouldn't comment on that part of the investigation either.
"We are relieved to know that these two risky individuals have been taken off the streets, and the public is out of harm's way", Dozier said. By the time help arrived, they had vanished.
At about 5:30 p.m. CT, Swing said Dubose and Rowe made a decision to leave and stole the couple's Jeep Cherokee.
It's been two days since an audacious prison escape in rural Georgia left two guards dead and two fugitives on the loose.
"They were inside the caged area of the bus", Sheriff Sills said at a press conference.
PM criticised for failing to meet Grenfell Tower fire survivors
Fourmee wrote on Instagram: "Just spotted Adele and Simon Konecki visiting the Grenfell Tower, she was dressed in an abaya". Local newspaper funds raised more than £1 million, including the Evening Standard's £989,848 and Get West London's £25,000.
Sills was emotional as he described the scene. "As [Tuesdsay] went on, and I learned more and more about these two officers and met their families, I realized that the impact of these cowardly acts is far-reaching". "I have their blood on my shoes". The pain endured by the families and loved ones of Sergeant Christopher Monica and Sergeant Curtis Billue endures, however.
The reward for information leading to their arrest grew Wednesday to $90,000, contributed by multiple agencies, Sills said.
Sills described them as "dangerous beyond description". They overpowered correctional officers Christopher Monica and Curtis Billue before murdering them with their own guns.
"Our hope is that they will be located and apprehended without further injury to anyone", Jones said. "I know both of them - great people - but they are extremely traumatized".
- Law enforcement officials said the two escaped inmates who investigators said shot and killed two Georgia corrections officers during their escape on Tuesday morning from a prison van in Putnam County have been captured.
The two inmates overpowered and disarmed the guards about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday as 33 inmates were being driven between prisons, authorities have said.
"We lost two of our fellow officers, two of our kin".
"It couldn't be seen at all", he said.
There is a GoFundMe page established for Monica, who is survived by his wife and two daughters, as well as his grandchildren. Billue, 58, was an employee for 10-years and leaves behind his father, brother and sister.
